Reading List: Masters of Habit

While reading an unrelated piece about the habits of successful people, we came across this James Clear tribute to Maya Angelou, the 86-year-old writer and poet who sadly passed away last week.

As part of his Masters of Habit series, Clear collects a number of quotes from Angelou herself, most notably describing her writing routine.

While it is always valuable to reflect on the great wisdom of others, Clear’s choice to focus on the habits, routines and consistency of Angelou’s work makes both a fitting tribute and a worthy read.

Standout quote: “One isn’t necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency. We can’t be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest.”

Reading List is a new kind of post for our Effective Business Communication blog. Each week, we’ll point to an article, video or graphic that has taken our interest. The posts that made us stop scrolling and listen. We’d love to hear what you think in the comments below.
